Nelson Is The Winner Of The Lagos City Criterium
Nelson, who competes for the Sharks Racing Club in Port Harcourt, finished ahead of United Pro Team's Sadiq Ajibade and Cyclotron's Precious Godwin. Nelson went on to say, 'I have two more contests before the end of the year, and I'm going to keep training hard to finish the season well.'
Bassey Nelson, who dominated from start to finish to win the
N200,000 star award at the Lagos City Criterium 2017, proved pundits wrong. He
stated, 'We've been preparing hard for this, and as the Nigerian champion, I
knew there was a chance I'd win, ' Nelson told reporters after the race on
Saturday.
The organizers, Sustainable Cycling Foundation (SCF), also
recognized the juniors who competed earlier in the year, with Odebiyi Azeez and
Awuri Oveh obtaining first place in the boys and girls categories,
respectively. Ese Ukpeseraye of the Cyclotron team won the women's professional
race, with Tombrakpa Grikpa and Joan Okoro coming in second and third,
respectively. Prize money totalled over N1.5 million, and plans are already in
the works to bring the Criterium to other regions of Nigeria in the near
future.
The level of competition pleased SCF chairman Faiz Imam, who
said, 'Our goals are to make sure these youngsters are exposed to additional
events.' We are pleased with their work here and will continue to support them
in achieving their goals. Access Bank, 9mobile, Cocoon Homes, Craneburg
Construction, and Castrol/Eterna all sponsored the Lagos City Criterium.
