  Nigerian conglomerate,   Monument Group , has announced its interest in partaking part in the upcoming   Dubai 2020 Expo. “Monument is keen on participating at the Nigerian Trade and Investment Forum of the Dubai 2020 Expo.   The Lagos State Sports Commission, on behalf of the Lagos State government, is supporting the competition. The event will be held on Ikoyi’s Dolphin Estate loop. Andrea Tonti, an ex-Tour de France rider, was a special guest at last year’s event. Teams will compete in six categories: professional male/female, masters male/female, and junior male/female. The mission of the Cycology Riding Club is to encourage grassroots cycling while promoting a healthy lifestyle. The criterium’s goal, according to SCF, is to promote cycling as a sport and a recreational activity among Nigerians.   Promoters of Team Access-Cocoon, Nigeria’s first professional cycling team say they are working round the clock to ensure the club is ready to participate in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Continental Circuit in 2020. Team Access Cocoon is being promoted by the Sustainable Cycling Foundation (SCF) and Cycology Riding Club (Cycology), as part of their ongoing grassroots development of cycling in Nigeria. It will race as an elite team this year prior to registration with the world cycling body, UCI for the 2020 season.   According to the promoters of the side, which derives its name from a combination of Access Bank and Cocoon Homes, its main sponsors, the team is a result of several years of investment, training and collaboration with a number of groups and individuals, both local and international, including Craneburg Construction, Eterna-Castrol and Velocare as sponsors.    It hopes to join other African countries, which now boast continental cycling teams such as Team Dime

  At the event where about 250 cyclists competed and over N2m was given as cash prize among other gift items like phones, Tunde Afolabi and Mercia Kamara won the male and female Masters’ class, while Joseph Ibaku and Elizabeth Obene clinched the junior category.   Determined Bassey Nelson proved pundit right as he dominated from start to finish to claim N200,000 star prize at the Lagos City Criterium 2017. Nelson who races for the Sharks Racing Club from Port Harcourt was ahead of Sadiq Ajibade and Precious Godwin of United Pro Team and Cyclotron team respectively. “I’ve been working hard for this and as Nigerian champion I came into this knowing there’s a chance I was going to win this,” said a confident Nelson to pressmen after the race last Saturday.
